Kim

There were three things I wanted to learn with this project. I wanted to learn about a production process in which I had not experimented with previously, learn about a cultural topic outside the United States, and I wanted the end result to be a printed product.

The topic I chose was North Korea. What was most intriguing to me was the man that contributed so much to the reduction of a nation, Kim Jong-Il. This portrait of Kim Jong-Il represents the qualities that people see in him. I chose to represent this on two sides, that in which an American/outsider would perceive him and one in which a North Korean would perceive their “dear leader.” To represent these qualities I chose to use the animals from the Korean zodiac that embody these qualities.

Just as I wanted to learn more about the Kim Jong-Il and North Korea, the poster starts a discussion about the problems facing North Koreans as a result of Kim’s regime.
